Q.

How much do granite countertops cost?

A.

The cost of granite countertops varies from about $2,000-$4,800. The average American homeowner can expect to spend about $3,000 on materials and labor. However, the cost really depends on several factors including countertop size and shape, the grade and quality of the stone, and if you plan to install it yourself or hire a contractor.

Q.

What are the different grades of granite?

A.

In general, there are three different grades of granite most homeowners consider for their kitchen or bathroom countertops. Levels 1, 2, and 3, are the most accessible to the average American homeowner; however, granite grades can go up to levels 6 or 7 in some countries and based on the rarity of the stone. Level 1 is considered entry-level granite. Level 2 is a mid-grade granite, while Level 3 and above is considered to be a high-grade granite. The grade of stone is determined by some key factors, being: color, vein pattern, pitting, marking, thickness, and the country of origin.

Q.

Which granite is the best quality?

A.

As mentioned above, the best quality granite is a high-level granite (level 3 and above). The highest grade is usually the most expensive and has the finest quality, best durability, less common patterns and veining, and will have a good amount of soft and hard materials within the stone.

Depending on your goals for your kitchen countertops the grade of granite will be different. Either way, we are confident we can help guide you in picking the best granite slab to fit your budget and needs!
